Welcome to yamashirophoto.com

I have finally joined the global community with the launch of my first website. I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and have lived throughout the Midwest since 1988. In 1993, I settled in eastern Indiana to teach photography in the Department of Art at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and still have that privilege today.

On this site you’ll see highlights from three major bodies of work. Some have been in progress for decades and others are quite new. I began making black-and-white still life images in graduate school at Indiana University and continued with this genre into the new millennium. For the past few years, I have been exploring my heritage with a project that involves the remains of the World War II Japanese Internment Camps. Another recent project is inspired by the imagination of youth. These multimedia portraits are of my children and their friends.

I hope you enjoy the work. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions.
